I am a Sound Artist, Producer, Audio Engineer, Recording Engineer, Post Production Engineer and Pro Tools Operator.
I offer creative sound services for Musicians, Bands, Orchestras, Producers, Record Labels, Science, Radio, TV, Film, Internet, Broadcast and everyone else who requires an exceptional sound for their Recording, Mixing and Mastering of Music, Location Sound, Voice Overs, ADR and Forensic Audio.
As an engineer and audiophile recording artist I strive to create an artistically appropriate sound to match and enhance the character of any audio content and to make this translate to the widest variety of listening situations and audio systems.
My approach to sound is about creating transparent clarity supplemented by warm even order harmonics, I would term as dry punchy bass, lush warmth, velvety mids and glossy rounded treble. Sometimes I talk about adding subtle air flow as in a breath of 30 Khz, and a tint of light green in the stereo depth specialization. I tend to enhance and excite the recorded material sometimes with a particular character to unify sound with music and vice versa. Sometimes I just go for crystal clear transparency with shades of ocean blue.
I treat all sound equal, there is no good or bad, in my ears there is just more or less defined sound, and as such my attitude towards any sound is to create an optimum balance between frequencies, dynamics and spacial depth, yet to leave space for the unexpected.
“Artificiality is required to convey the illusion of reality…” My desire with sound is to create an “illusion”, so the listener can experience sound and music in all its complexity, yet without compromising the artistic aspects of artificiality in the virtual and analog domain.
“Definition is required to give range for punch and snap…” My goal with sound is “ultimately defined sound”, so the listener can indulge in the depth and space of warm and transparent punch and snap.
“Collaboration is the key to my sound…” No matter who you are, where you are, what you are doing or of what the size your budget is; if you are looking for any of the above, I will love to be involved.
My earliest endeavors into capturing and processing sound waves started as a child when I played my electric guitar through my grandfathers WW2 valve radio, I soldered a direct pre amp output which I recorded on an old single track vintage tube tape recorder. Little did I know that this early introduction to sound and technology would change my life forever, never escaping my mind, I think, dream and live in sound every single moment of my life.
I have been working as a freelance audio engineer for 15 years and operate a boutique audio production business located in Wellington, New Zealand. In the past 10 years I have designed and built 3 commercial recording studios, completed 5 years of study, became an Avid certified Pro Tools HD operator and with an entry into Pro Tools dating back to 1999 I have built a track record on over 60 productions in 5 different countries, including Radio Broadcast, TV & Film Post Production, Orchestral Concert Recordings, Field Recordings and Critical Audio Mastering for mass Disc, Tape and Vinyl Replication.
